Description

Concrete Countertop Stain

1qt. (946ml) per bottle. Will cover approximately 50 - 75 sq. ft. depending on porosity of concrete.

Z Aqua Stain-UV is an extremely versatile and long lasting water based concrete stain. It is a safe, non-toxic product used to color various concrete surfaces. It is a great alternative to common acid stains. It contains no hazardous components, yet can produce the mottled, variegated look associated with chemical (acid) stains used in decorative concrete. It is UV stable and will not fade from exposure to direct sunlight. Aqua-Stain UV can be used alone, mixed, blended or layered for any number of natural looking effects. Stains are most commonly applied with a rag, brush, roller, sponge, or pump type sprayer for different effects.

Aqua-Stain UV vs Aqua-Tint

For outdoor applications, it is safer to use Aqua-Stain UV. On indoor applications with tight finishes such as a burnished or polished surface, Aqua-Tint may be the better choice. If the concrete is neither outdoors nor has a polished finish, either product will work well. A rough analogy is the stains are a form of paint, and dyes are more like an ink.

Color Chart

WARNING: Colors may vary depending on concrete mixture initial color and the porosity of the concrete. The samples below were created on top of a standard gray concrete mix. The mottled effect was created by applying one coat evenly with a rag. Additional coats were then applied in a random, non-uniform applications to give variegated look commonly seen with acid stains. If a more uniform look is desired, this can be achieved with more even applications.

Added beautiful color to our countertops!

"We used fawn and hazelnut uv stain then sealed it with a self leveling epoxy. A little bit goes a long way! Very pleased with how it turned out!"

Concrete Tabletop

"I used the Aqua Stain UV in boulder to refurbish an outdoor patio tabletop. It had been painted before so used a heat gun and scraper to get as much paint off as I could then cleaned and sprayed the table surface with Aqua Stain. Boulder is a nice deep and rich brown color. I then sealed the surface several times with a glossy sealer bought at a local hardware store. Applying the sealer was a pain. You did not want to go back over your initial brush stroke as it would bubble and string up. Had to sand and apply several coats. The sealer might work better if sprayed. End product looks great however."

"Stain worked great. Easy to apply and layer for desired color."

Easy to Use, Easy Clean Up, Great Color

"Purchased this along with two other colors. My first attempt I wasn't happy with the color or the way it went on. I added this copper color and sponged it on. Used a small paint brush for details. Much better. I love my countertop now."

First time using

"First time using this product, very user-friendly seems to be working out great I won’t know for a year. See what the sun does to it."

Ni A. (5/5)

Underwellming

"I found that the stain did not penetrate the concrete as I had hoped. So I ended up painting and polyurethaning the surface to get the bluestone look I was after"

Q&A

Will the UV Aqua Stain work on a concrete countertop that has been polished to 400 grit?
It should work ok but it is a little tight of a polish for stain. If it is inside, you might be better off with the Aqua-Tint Dye.
What is the stain to water ratio used in the example pictures?
In the color swatches, those are 100% stain, no dilution. They are over gray concrete and color can always vary depending on a number of factors so we recommend you use these as a guideline and always test in a small area before doing your actual project.
Hi! Once the stain is applied, do you have to neutralize the countertops with a mixture of baking soda and water?
No, this is a water-based stain, not an acid stain, so no neutralizing is necessary.
Can you using your product on concrete that has already been sealed?
No, this product will only work on unsealed concrete. It will not be able to properly penetrate sealed concrete.
I poured using your product and did not achieve a smooth top surface. I was probably took too long to trowel. so I was planning on polishing then using your UV stain. Can you stain a polished outdoor surface?
Wet polishing is a great solution if your top is not quite as smooth as you were hoping for. However, if you want to stain, I would not polish past 200-400 grit. Even at 400 though, your top should still be plenty smooth.
Is it recommended to sand concrete before staining? If so what grit is recommended?
Yes, you should at least sand lightly with 100-200 grit paper to open the concrete and remove any laitance (dusty finish).
After the stain is applied, how long do you need to wait to seal it?
You need to let the stain fully dry which should only take a few hours. But then you want to make sure you wash the surface really well with a damp cloth to remove any excess stain that did not penetrate into the concrete.
Can this product be used on a basement floor?
Yes, this water based stain can be used on a floor before it is sealed. How effective it is will depend on the finish on the concrete. If the floor was finished with a power trowel and is super smooth, the stain might not penetrate well and the concrete would need to be acid etched first.
What is the optimal temperature for use on an outdoor application?
Do you mean temperature during application. It should be between 50 - 90 degrees F. If it is on the warmer side though, you want to make sure the concrete has not been baking in the sun and is getting hot. This can cause stain to flash dry on surface before it penetrates.
What stain color(s) is used in picture #3 of 23 above? What application technique?
I am sorry I am not exactly sure what photo you are referencing and I do not want to send bad info. Can you please email us at info@concretecoutnertopsolutions.com the actual photo or a link to it? We would be happy to help.
